Sign language support at the Danish citizens - portal borger.dk

03-07-2017 News UK

On Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), the Danish citizens portal - borger.dk - introduced sign language support of words in a beta-version.

Works on several platforms

The solution, which can also be used by other websites, is activated or deactivated by the individual user pressing “Activate/Deactivate sign language support” at the bottom of the pages at borger.dk. The solution also works on mobile devices.

Database with 13 000 words and terms

A total of 13 000 words and terms have been interpreted for people with deafness, videoed, and stored in a database. The words and terms have been found via borger.dk, three interpreter lists, and from the Centre for Deafblindness and Hearing Loss’ own website, and they have been subsequently quality checked by deaf people and interpreters.

The Danish Agency for Digitisation participates in the steering group for the project led by the Centre for Deafblindness and Hearing Loss.
Other websites are also able to use the solution. Installing the database is quite simple and a guide can be found at www.adgangmedtegn.dk
