Twice a year, the IT Project Council publishes a status report on major government IT projects. The IT Project Council has been publishing these reports since it was established in 2011, and a total of 79 projects have undergone risk assessments in that time.
A total of 28 projects and one programme have reported on their progress for the first half of 2017. The Council gives all projects a traffic light based on the reports from the projects regarding any expected deviations from the planned timetable, budget and benefit realisation as an expression of the general state each project.
Two projects received red traffic lights, five projects and one programme received yellow traffic lights, 20 projects received green traffic lights, and a single project did not receive a traffic light due to lack of a baseline.
Scope and complexity should be minimised
The IT Council notes that the authorities have launched quite a number of major, complex IT projects during the last half year. In fact, almost a third of the projects in the overall portfolio now have a budget of over DKK 100 mill, and the IT Council has assessed that just under 40 per cent of them have a high-risk profile.
The IT Council encourages the authorities responsible for these projects to adhere to the fourth principle for government IT projects regarding delineating projects in order to minimise their scope and complexity with a focus on the business objectives.
