2016 Status Report on the Common Public Sector Digital Strategy 2016-2020

The vast majority of the 33 initiatives in the common public sector Digital Strategy 2016-2020 are now up and running, and the first visible results are beginning to show. This has been confirmed in first annual status report on the Common Public Sector Digital Strategy 2016-2020.

The common public sector Digital Strategy 2016-2020 was launched in May 2016. With this strategy, the Danish government, Local Government Denmark and Danish Regions agreed to raise the bar, as well as the ambitions, for joint work on digitisation. The strategy contains a broader range of initiatives than earlier strategies, and it encompasses new areas such as the utilities sector and information security. 

“Overall, this first annual status report for 2016 on the common public sector Digital Strategy 2016-2020 demonstrates that the initiatives in the strategy have got off to an excellent start. The vast majority of the 33 initiatives were launched in 2016, and steering committees and working groups have been appointed and commenced their work,” said Louise Palludan Kampmann, Head of Division at the Danish Agency for Digitisation.


Several of the initiatives analyses to qualify specific activities to be carried out under the initiatives over the course of the strategy period. For many of these initiatives, the results of the analyses will be available during 2017. 

Visible results 

The results of some of the initiatives are already visible. A white paper has been prepared on IT architecture for digitisation. This white paper will establish a framework for how ICT systems across central government and sub-national governments can exchange data. After public consultation, the white paper was approved 23 May 2017. Similarly, work is also progressing on development of the new generations of NemID (“Easy-ID” - the Danish eID/digital signature solution), NemLog-in (“Easy-Logon” - the public sector single-signon solution), and Digital Post (the digital letterbox for messages from and communications with public authorities). Dialogue with suppliers has been implemented, and the projects are in the process of preparing public tenders. The public tenders are planned to be launched within the next six months. Finally, a number of information campaigns concerning information security have been run. Campaigns include information on the use of cookies on websites and information for citizens on how to protect their data on the Internet. 

In the future, status reports on the strategy will be published every year. The purpose of these annual reports is to provide an insight into progress on the initiatives, such that public authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders can be kept updated.
