The infrastructure must be continuously developed, for example to handle the mobile platforms and new operational concepts such as cloud computing. However, the public sector does not have the financial resources to digitise mindlessly without thought.
We must digitise in areas where it can be verified that the benefits exceed the investment – areas where a new and better way will lead to cost-savings and thus more money in the public coffers. Focus is also on getting what is already built to function more efficiently before implementing new technology.
By sharing infrastructure components and by using open standards we ensure that public digitisation does not develop the same components many times, but reuse common components where possible, and by using open standards avoid provider lock-in with proprietary solutions.
